Active Desiccant
The new Mekko "Active Desiccant" range of drying and storage cabinets was designed to guarantee the new class of quality and reliability standards required by Surface Mount Devices and substrates. By assuring moisture free ICs, solder reflow can be achieved without damage from micro-cracking or delamination.

If moisture is absorbed from the environment by surface mounted components, and then the components are exposed to high temperatures, as in solder reflow ovens (convection, infrared, IR/convection, vapour phase, hot air rework tools), then the absorbed moisture will expand rapidly, causing internal device stress. The resulting stress can cause internal or external cracking, delamination, and internal corrosion.
Eliminate "popcorning" and micro-cracking of IC`s and BGA`s during reflow by using "Active Desiccant" component drying and storage, rather than baking.
Drying out the components resets the "floor life" clock.
"Active Desiccant" cabinets offer the best solution for storage and drying Only costs: The cabinet and electricity!
There is no need for any extra consumables or services to operate the unit.
Our cabinets are equipped with active desiccant rotor drying units, with continuous regeneration of the desiccant. This unit is installed inside the cabinet to keep the internal humidity at less than 5%RH. (max. 1%RH)
The operator can select continuous operation, or automatic control by the RH meter.
In automatic mode, the drying unit switches off when the
internal cabinet humidity drops to around 1%, and switches
on when the humidity rises to 3%RH. This means that
when a door is opened, the humidity will rise, but the
drying unit will turn on as soon as the humidity rises above
3%RH, thus guaranteeing a swift return to normal
conditions when the door is closed. The construction unit back drying process continues to take place still, even if the cabinet reached 1%rF.
If used in continuous mode, then the drying unit remains
switched on, and less than 1%RH can be achieved.

Drying Storage Cabinets
Mekko "Active Desiccant" Drying and Storage Cabinets are built in Great Britain using parts sourced within the EU.
The standard equipment built so far fits into six sizes of cabinet:
AD - 01 (1 door)
AD - 02 (2 doors)
AD - 03 (3 doors)
AD - 04 (4 doors)
AD - 05 (5 doors)
AD - 06 (6 doors)
Each cabinet is fitted with fixed stainless steel shelves. Then there are options including sliding, removable shelves (aluminium), and fixtures for tape reels and tape feeder cassettes.
All models are equipped with a MTX - Flow desiccant rotor drying unit, with continuous regeneration of the desiccant. This unit is installed inside the cabinet to keep the internal humidity at less than 3%RH. There is no need for any extra consumables or services to operate the unit. It is free-standing and self-contained, and does not required Nitrogen or compressed air. If you keep the doors closed, a dampness up to 1%rF is attainable, that is optimal for the construction unit back drying process.
RH meter and digital thermometer are included in the cabinet, viewed through a door.
The drying unit can be switched by the operator to run continually for minimum humidity, or with automatic control to a set-point in the RH meter. The internal conditions can be set to less than 5% RH with an internal temperature of around 25-30C. Mains electrical supply: 230Vac single phase, 500 W / average value 50 Watt
Finished in gloss white powder coated steel. (Other colours available, eg semi-gloss beige).

Noise level less than 50dB(A) measured in accordance with EN292.
